Reasons to Book Cheap Georgetown Flights

Georgetown is the capital of Guyana. It is situated on the Atlantic Ocean coast at the mouth of the Demerara River, and is known as the ‘ Garden City of the Caribbean’ for its numerous tree-lined streets that lead to some fascinating wooden colonial buildings. Georgetown is home to the world’s best dark rum, delicious seafood and a pulsating nightlife. Two impossible to miss attractions here are the tropical rainforests and the world's highest single drop waterfall-Kaieteur Falls.

Kaieteur Falls (Old Man Falls)

Located in Kaieteur National Park along Potaro River in Guyana, Kaieteur Falls is the center of Guyanese rainforests. It is about four times higher than Niagara Falls and tops at 251 metres when flowing through a series of steep cascades. The Kaieteur Falls is an unusual combination of height, volume and thrust- a factor that accounts for its average flow rate of 663 cubic metres per second.

St. George's Cathedral

One of the world’s tallest wooden churches, St. George's Cathedral is an Anglican cathedral in Georgetown and seat of the Bishop of Guyana. It was built in Gothic architecture with clustered columns and flying buttresses in 19th century. It has a shrine of the first bishop of the city and a number of stained glass windows that chiefly depict the Crucifixion and the Ascension of Jesus Christ. A large chandelier gifted by Queen Victoria to mark the 100th anniversary of the Province of the West Indies is another stunner in this cathedral.

Botanical Gardens

The Botanical Gardens in Georgetown have an extensive collection of tropical flora and are laid out with ponds, canals, and small bridges. The star attraction here is Guyana's national flower, Victoria Lilies.
