Today, this site is used as a museum to display around 6000 haunting portraits of prisoners, which reveal the tragic history of Cambodia.
Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda
Located adjacent to each other, Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda span around 174870 square meters of greenery and feature engrossing Khmer architecture! The king of Cambodia still resides in the Royal Palace. Tourists can explore number of buildings within the palace that comprises Moonlight Pavilion and the Throne Hall. The entry to the Silver Pagoda is free of cost and visitors can visit the Emerald Buddha that dates back to the 17th century.
Independence Monument
An iconic landmark located in the center of the city, Independence Monument is locally known as Vimean Ekareach. It is an imposing monument signifying Cambodia's liberation from French. Celebrations of national festivals such as Independence Day (9th November) and Constitution Day (24th September) are organized at this monument. Best time to visit Independence Monument is at night.
