Reasons to Book Cheap Washington DC Flights
Washington DC, the capital of the United States is often referred to as "DC," "Washington," or "the District". The city was founded in the year 1791 and is named in the honor of President George Washington. The city offers great variety of architectural styles such as Neoclassical, Georgian, Gothic, Victorian, Beaux-Arts, Richardsonian Romanesque, and more. The area surrounding the National Mall has been kept free from skyscrapers with limitation to heights of the buildings. The White House and United States Capitol are amongst top tourist attractions in Washington. Spring and autumn seasons are best to explore the city on foot!
United States Capitol and Capitol Hill
The Capitol Hill is a famous place where tourists visit to see the government buildings such as US Capitol and the Supreme Court. The area has several 19th century row houses, markets, and several dining opportunities. The United Sates Capitol is the House of Representatives and the Senate. Its dome (based on St. Peter's dome, Rome stands out from all buildings in Washington. The central part was constructed between 1793-1812. The main facade where President takes oath was built around 1958-62. On its other side is a marble terrace from where one can catch the beautiful view of the city and its surroundings.
The White House
This official residence of the President of the US was originally built in the year 1792 by James Hoban. Except George Washington, it has been home to every US President. If planning to visit the White House, it is advised that you book your tour well in advance either through Congressional office or Embassy. The tour includes a visit to the East, Blue, Green, and Red Rooms, the Ballroom, and the State Dining Room.
The Lincoln Memorial
Lincoln Memorial was constructed in the honor of Abraham Lincoln; the 16th President of the United States. The memorial is the most loved amongst all buildings in Washington. In its center lies a marble statue of the President Abraham Lincoln which is around 19 feet high. The statue is surrounded by nearly 36 pillars and are said to represent each state which existed at the time of Lincoln's death.
